What is BGMovies.net
BGMovies is an independent archive and database dedicated to documenting and preserving Bulgarian cinema.
The project was created in 2006 with a simple yet ambitious goal — to preserve the memory of Bulgarian cinema in one place.
Originally launched as bgmovies.info, it is now preserved and presented again as an archival initiative dedicated to Bulgarian cinema.
Over time, the database expanded to include thousands of titles and individuals.
Loss and Restoration
The history of the project also includes difficult moments.
In 2008, as a result of serious issues with a hosting provider, part of the site’s data and media files were lost. Later, due to lack of maintenance, the original domain bgmovies.info was lost.
Despite this, the core idea of the project was never abandoned.
bgmovies.net was restored and republished as an archival project, with the aim of gradually recovering and supplementing missing data whenever possible.
Today
Today, bgmovies.net exists as an open archive dedicated to Bulgarian cinema — its past, present, and memory.
The project:- does not pursue commercial goals
- does not claim completeness
- but strives to ensure that no Bulgarian film or creator is forgotten
