The composer Antonii Manev meets Dorotea - a girl who has suffered a serious psychiatric illness, but possesses incredible sensitivity and abilities. Gradually the trust which Dorotea feels for Antoni grows into love. She confides in him that she can "fly" and at one point in the film, they really do. This causes them both anxiety. Dorotea realises that he finds it difficult to cross the "barrier" between reality and dream, the ideal for harmony and happiness. Antoni is shocked by what happened and leaves for the provinces. In his absence she goes onto the roof again. In the morning she is found dead...
