Madam Bovari ot Sliven

The desire of being different, of being someone else, throws the life of a woman dreaming of change into utter confusion. The heroine is an ambitious young woman who desperately wants to get rid of her dull everyday life in the provincial town where she lives. In search of the man of her life, Emilia goes to acquaintance clubs but none of the men she meets there satisfies her requirements. Bergman’s films fill in her solitude until she meets a director who offers her to act as Madam Bovary in a performance of the local amateur drama group. Emilia’s life changes. She is so possessed with the magic of the stage that begins to almost completely identify herself with her heroine and this makes a real mess of her life.
