Pytuvane kym Ierosalim

2003 · War · Drama
Two children, German Jews, accompanied by an old uncle are trying to escape from the raging fascists to the land of their ancestors Palestine. Destiny has prepared the two children to meet a traveling entertainment company and this moment marks the beginning of the Bulgarian part of their survival. Miserable hotel rooms, old buses, "tremendous artistic successes" and constant lack of money make their days a colourful merry-go-round. Sofia, Plovdiv, Shumen and, at last, Varna – the port they were dreaming of. The poor members of the company pawn the very last things they have to pay the access of the two children aboard. In the span of two years, 1939-1940, thousands of Jews from Central Europe managed to escape death using Bulgaria as a corridor before borders were closed.
