Barbara Brilska

Barbara Brylska was born on June 5, 1941 in the town of Skotniki, near the city of Łódź, in Poland. At the age of 15, she was cast in the film Kalosze szczescia. After this role, she took acting lessons in a theater school and then became a student at the National Film School in Łódź. In 1967, she finished her acting education at the Warsaw School of Theatre, Film, and Television.

Barbara's first major acting role was in the movie Ich dzień powszedni in 1963. In 1967, she had a role in the movie Pharaoh (Polish: Faraon) based on the novel by Bolesław Prus. Apart from taking part in movies directed by Polish directors, she also took part in movies directed by Soviet, Czechoslovak, and Bulgarian directors.

For her role as Nadya in the 1977 movie Irony of Fate, she received a Soviet state award. The acceptance of this award caused great controversy in her home country. Nonetheless, she became a popular actress in the Soviet Union. She later would claim that her success caused jealousy from the Polish film community and led to them ignoring her work.

Since 2000, she has been acting in stage plays, primarily in Russia.
