Ivan Vazov was born on June 27th, 1850, at Sopot, Bulgaria.
He was educated at Sopot and then at Plovdiv and later became a teacher briefly in the provences.
His short stories, novels, poems and plays are inspired by his love of Bulgaria and her countryside. For over half a century he was regarded as being the figurehead of Bulgarian litrature and is continued to be seen as it's foremost poet and founder of modern Bulgarian written art.
Vazov died on September 22nd, 1921 in Sofia.
