In 1978 Malina Petrova graduated from The National Academy of Theatre and Film Art "Krustio Sarafov" in Sofia in the class of prof. Hristo Hristov (assistant Georgi Diulgerov). From 1979 till 1991 she worked at the Boqna film company, Sofia, Bulgaria. She has directed several documentaries.
