Nikolai Volev was born on April 10, 1946 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
He studied architecture and graduated in Film Directing at the London Institute of Cinematography in 1972. His feature film Margarit & Margarita (1988) was selected for participation at many international film festivalsIn 1994 he won the Golden Rose Award in Varna for his new version of The Goat's Horn. From 2000 to 2006 Nikolay Volev is a member of the Board of Directors of Boyana Film Studios.
