Stanislav Semerdjiev

Biography

Prof.Dr. Stanislav Semerdjiev was born on January 8th, 1963. He is Rector of the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA) – Sofia, Bulgaria and Vice-President of the World Association of Film and TV Schools (CILECT). He founded the Screenwriting Graduate Program at NATFA (1991) and holds workshops in Sweden, Finland, Germany, Italy and Argentina. He is the creator of the first Bulgarian daily TV serial Hotel Bulgaria (2004, Nova TV) and the Bulgarian-USA TV interactive project The Hamlet Adventure (2005, dir. Greg Roach, X-Files). He is also the author of a number of fiction films and script-editor of more than 30 European full-length feature productions. He has written more than 120 articles on the audiovisual and the interactive media, including the monography A Short History of the World Screenwriting, vol.1: USA (1994). He has served as Jury Member or President for more than 20 prestigious international film and TV festivals. He is member of the Public Advisory Council at the Bulgarian National TV (BNT), member of the National Screenplays Evaluating Committee at the National Film Center (NFC) and member of the Public Advisory Committee at the Electronic Media Council (EMC). He is also a regular member of the Union of Bulgarian Journalists (since 1989) and of the Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers (since 1988) and has been elected several times on their Executive Boards.
