Plot
It is the child's birthday. The mother is doing her best to make it a special day. The family is penurious. The best clothes are taken out of the wardrobe. The coat is oversized. The shoes have been put on only once. The mother is nervous and uptight. Even the most insignificant difficulty is enough to drive her to despair. When it occurs, the kid is there for her to afford consolation.
