Petyr Zlatev Popzlatev was born on February 4th, 1953 in Sofia. After studying French civilisation at the Sorbonne, he graduated from the Louis Lumiere institute in 1978. He began his career as assistant to Liubomir Sharlandzhiev. After a number of prize-winning documentary films, his debut feature film, "I, the Countess", won the Jury Prize at Angers.
